MHS teams advance in sub-state

The MHS Lions and Lady Lions have both advanced in sub-state play. On Monday, the Lions defeated Ellsworth by a score of 43-26 and the Lady Lions beat Ellsworth 56-28. The boys will play at Beloit at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 4, against the winner of the Hoisington-Phillipsburg game. The girls will play at 7:30 on Friday, March 5, at Beloit against the winner of the Beloit-Norton game.

 

MHS places at the state wrestling

The MHS wrestling team competed in the state meet at Hays last weekend. The squad had one wrestler place third and one place second. A cooperative agreement wrestler from Ell-Saline was a state champion.

 

BHS tromps Canton-Galva

The Bennington High School Bulldogs hosted the Canton-Galva basketball team on Feb. 23. The Bulldogs dominated the game winning by a score of 44-12.

 

Lady Lions lose three of four games

The Minneapolis Lady Lions basketball team had a rough couple of weeks as they dropped three out of four games leaving their record at 15-4. The first of the three losses came on the road at Claflin on Feb. 9. Claflin won by a score of 47-41. On Feb. 12, The Lady Lions were able to bounce back and get a 48-45 victory over league opponent Southeast of Saline. Republic County came to Minneapolis and upset the Lady Lions by a score of 67-60 on Feb. 16.

 

Lions capture share of NCAA title

The Minneapolis High School boys basketball team traveled to Russell last Tuesday to close out the regular season. The Lions won the game 47-35. The win gave the Lions a share of the NCAA league title after finishing 10-2 in league play and splitting with the Sacred Heart Knights. The win also gave the Lions a 16-4 regular season record and a #1 seed in the Beloit sub-state tournament.
