MHS qualifies full entry to state tournament

The Minneapolis High School forensics team has qualified a full entry to the State Speech and Drama Championship Tournament that will be held in Andale on May 6. Each school is allowed to enter a maximum number of 16 at the state tournament. The students qualify by placing first or second at invitational tournaments during the regular season. The state tournament consists of three preliminary rounds, semi-finals and finals.

Students and their events are: Amy Davidson, prose, informative speech; Celeste Leech, original oration, informative speech; Sarah Comfort, serious solo, duet; Chelsey DeWitt, humorous solo; Ryan Wilson, prose, poetry, original oration; Jesse Lee, prose, extemporaneous speech; Lauren Eckert, informative speech; Hayley George, informative speech; Ginny Stratton, prose, informative speech; Taylor Kline, Alyssa Baker, Jacob Klein, duet. Three students qualified for the State Festival that will be held in Salina on May 6. At the festival, students perform once for a rating. Those students are Jenny Labes and Morgan Johnson in duet and Morgan Erickson in IDA.

 

MHS students compete in music contest

The State Music Contest for Solos and Small Ensembles was held April 29 at Cloud County Community College in Concordia.

MHS students receiving a "I" rating were Ana Arvelo, alto sax solo; Ryan Wilson, vocal solo; and the clarinet ensemble of Emilee Fleming, Paige Reinhart, Rose Scarbrough, Ginny Stratton, Taylor Ketron, Kelsie Moody, Ryan Wilson and Melanie Catron. Analena Simmons received a "II" rating for her flute solo.
